Hapoel Jerusalem are into the last 16 of the Israel State Cup after a shock 1-0 extra-time win over Maccabi Tel Aviv on Tuesday.

The second division outfit progressed after Mati Avraham scored in the 108th minute of the match to stun Tel Aviv, who are seventh in Israel's top tier.

Although they have won just one of their past five league games, Tel Aviv - Israeli Cup winners on 22 occasions - started brightly at Hapoel's Teddy Stadium and created plenty of opportunities without being able to break the deadlock.

With neither side able to score, the match headed for extra time, and after a goalless first period it was Avraham's strike three minutes into the second that sent the home fans into a frenzy.

Tel Aviv had one final chance to claw back an equaliser, but Roberto Colautti's header in the dying seconds was cleared off the line.

Hapoel last won the Cup in 1973.
